The Salvation Army of Shelbyville, IN: Serving Meals

The Salvation Army of Shelbyville, Indiana serves meals to those who need it Monday-Friday. They ask organizations, groups, churches, and private citizens to prepare and serve meals on Saturdays, Sundays, and Federal Holidays. If you would like to help with a few meals or are able to make a quarterly commitment, they’d love to have you on their schedule!

Saturdays and Federal Holidays: Volunteer groups or private citizens would prepare a sack lunch and then serve them on the alley that runs on the West Side of the Salvation Army. These meals can be anything that you would like to prepare. Some people serve sandwich, chips, and a cookie or you might do chili, cornbread and a homemade dessert (it’s up to you!). You would also need to include a drink with the meal - typically water or a gatorade type of drink in the summer months. Each person typically will take two meals— one for lunch and one for dinner (anywhere between 6-75 meals).

Sundays: Volunteer groups or private citizens are able to use the Salvation Army kitchen to prepare a hot meal. People can come inside and eat in the dining room.
